1. Seek Blessings at the Main Shrine
The highlight of any visit is the darshan of Lord Siddhi Vinayaka. Devotees offer coconuts, modaks (sweet dumplings), and flowers as part of traditional worship rituals. Morning and evening puja timings draw large gatherings, with chanting and lamp-lighting that create a powerful, moving atmosphere.
2. Walk Along the Sauparnika Riverbank
After your darshan, take a few minutes to walk along the riverbank next to the temple. The view of the river framed by coconut palms and dense green foliage is genuinely beautiful and completely tranquil. It's a favourite spot for quiet reflection and photography.
3. Witness Festival Celebrations
The temple comes alive during Ganesh Chaturthi, drawing enormous crowds for processions, rituals, and cultural performances. If your visit coincides with this festival (usually August–September), it's an experience you won't forget. Other major pujas and annual celebrations are also observed with great devotion throughout the year.
4. Explore Hattiangadi Village
The temple is set within the charming village of Hattiangadi, which keeps much of its traditional coastal Karnataka character. A short walk around the village reveals areca nut plantations, old homes with sloping tiled roofs, and the unhurried pace of rural life. It's a lovely contrast to the busier tourist spots in Udupi.
